For the first time since 2015 Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is opening the Meyers Beach ice caves to the public. The winter event occurs only under very specific conditions. “Few places offer an experience like the Apostle Islands ice caves,” said BriAnna Weldon, Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Superintendent. “The ice caves are a rare and remarkable winter phenomenon." Conditions can change rapidly and the caves are not guaranteed to remain open.
For safety reasons, there is NO PARKING on site or along the highway. Shuttles will be running from lots in Cornucopia to the west and the Sand River Gravel Pit to the east.
